The best Blogging Platform

There are many different categories to blogging. There are many different formats to blog posts. There are many different thing you can use a blog for, and there are many different blogging platforms to use when setting up your blog. We all know that things can get a bit confusing when you are trying to set up your own blog website. If you are an owner of a company you do not want to set up a blog on one of the public blogging sites out there. You want to create a company specific blog that you know belongs to your company, and that has no rules, except the ones you put in place.

Blogging is the fun part of owning a web site, but there are a few things you will need to remember when you are setting up a blog site and when you are writing for and maintaining that site. When setting up a site the first thing you need is an application. This is where is all get a bit hairy scary, because there are just so many companies offering different platform of blogging that you just do not know where to start working .

The platforms available

The great thing about most of them is that they are free, so, however, you will have to pay for, but you will need to decide if you want to pay or not for yourself. There are a load of platforms for blogging, with the most used one being WordPress (which we use here in FreeRoller). This is free software that does not need you to be a genius to install it. All you need to do is download the software and install it to your server. This server is the same server you will be hosting you blog site on, and it should be in the same folder you will be storing your blog pages on. Installation is easy and will be complete in a matter of seconds. The great thing about Wordpress is that you can create your own environment, which means that it is totally customizable to suit your needs and color scheme.

The second most used program, application or platform for blogging is called Typepad. Typepad is not to be installed on your server, as it is a blogging service. This is a site where you will need to set up an account and use the Typepad blog site to do your blogging. it is obviously not for people who want to host their own blog site, but it is one of the most used blogging platforms out there, second to Wordpress of course.

Blogger (a service by google)is another one that is similar to Typepad. You will not be able to download any software for this and you will need to use the server provided to do your blogging. if you are looking for self install program, that is also a widely used program, go for Mavable Type or Drupal. Otherwise do go for the best around, which is WordPress.
